Hello all.

I'd rather now spend my time dedicating myself to becoming a semi-hermit. I have looked into buying/leasing a gold claim (buy from the seller, then lease from the BLM) for me to both do general placer mining (gold panning) and also to live on. I am in the PNW, but Alaska is and always will be my home. I have been trying to save money to move back, but being someone who doesn't care about money, and actually hates it, its been hard. I have about 8 thousand in savings, and that will soon be converted to gold and silver so that way it goes up with inflation, and I won't lose anything. Gold and Silver aren't get rich quick. I have no delusions about this.

Most property (non mining/claims) I look at are 5-15k, and have been that price for the past 30 years. Issue is that I desire interior or north alaska, not that sissy southern alaska crap. Interior tend to start around 10k (except salcha, but salcha floods 24/7 so fuck that noise). I will start working soon, so I hope to save 1k per month give or take, all put into gold and silver.

My question and the start of the discussion is this. Lets say I didn't have the ability to do any of this. Or, we can say I gave up trying to save due to the market, and decided to just go into the bush without owning any property. What would be the best way at going about this? I know squatting can be pretty brutal, especially in the wintertime, seeing as how smoke from a fire would be a giveaway to any drones, lookout planes, or cops in the area. Most troopers have a beat of 250 square miles, so I know its not impossible. Having grown up in Alaska too I am aware of more paranormal risks (most of the triangle is idiots dying to cannibal neighbors in Manley, but there are also actual cryptids out there too) and would like to take precautions of them as well.

So, if I wanted to say screw it and head up that way (from PNW) and just squat the land, what would your recommendations be? I see discussion of stuff like this practically nowhere online (except for a few trapping forums where the anons just complain about squatters yankin their foxes and shit), so would like to try and make some kind of discussion here. While I know this is a more esoteric focused place, I think it fits given that many hermits and monks do the same thing. The reason I mention a gold claim is that its the quickest way to do it, but also doing so presents a target as they would know where your area is, and without it being a lode claim, you would need a special permit for building on the land.

Welp, looks like Ill be forced to go live in a cave or the woods for awhile cuz I cant get a job and my 8 thousand in savings isnt able to be accessed for another year. Any tips on staying alive or how to survive? Would a tablet be the best tech option, or a phone and a kindle?
